Today I will be packing my bags and getting ready for a serious road trip!! We are headed off to New York to photograph the wedding of my childhood friend Christan. My dad was the marching band director and her dad was the football coach at a small university in Emporia, Kansas. Our moms were best friends, and Christan and I were inseparable through the fist and second grades. Being that we were both first children with strong personalities we loved each other with all of the sisterly hatred imaginable. (Or was it the other way around!) Needless to say there was always a rivalry of some sort. The best one was with our obsession of the movie Grease. We spent countless hours watching the movie and then putting on stage plays for all who would watch. (We even graced the playground at recess with our version of the musical.) The problem always arose with the casting, of course both of us wanted to be Sandy. I had blond hair, so I figured that I was the natural choice, but that was not enough to convince Christan to give up the role. This discussion would send us into countless hours of conflict which would wind up with one of us resigning to take a less than desirable female lead. Now that we are all grown up, I’ll let Christan be Sandy next time we break into a chorus of “Summer Lovin’. “
Christan, this picture is for you!! I can’t wait to see you tomorrow!!
