Louisville Wedding Photography BLOG!

Hello to all of my wonderful friends and blog readers.  I'm Amy Shepherd, a Wedding Photographer from Louisville, Kentucky. This blog is designed to give you a little insight into my life and business, so to get things started I will share a bit about me.  We all wear many different hats and some of my favorites include: being a wife to the super awesome Paul Shepherd, a mother of two amazing little boys, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and of course a PHOTOGRAPHER!  I love... music, singing opera in the shower, chocolate, spring, vacations (anytime and anywhere), date nights out, family nights at home, flowers, wearing scarves in the winter, taking walks, Paul's Thai chicken recipie, long veils in the wind, sunglasses, eyes, smiles....

I feel that photography is a means of expression that transforms your life and experiences into tangible works of art.  Everyone is familiar with the expression "a picture is worth a thousand words" but I would venture to say that the moments captured in an image are priceless.  The sweet expression of a child, a father's face as he embraces his daughter at the alter,  the love shared between a bride and groom as they dance together for the first time are all moments for which the personal value transcends any monetary cost.  The investment in beautiful and timeless imagery is one of the most imortant choices you can make for your family.

So...now that we know each other don't be a stranger! Please feel free to post your thoughts and ideas in the comment section.

Kate & Kyle - Louisville Engagement Session

Louisville Engagement PhotographyLouisville Engagement PhotographyLouisville Engagement PhotographyLouisville Engagement PhotographyLouisville Engagement PhotographyThe cinnamon candle is burning, the Christmas carols are playing in the background and I have a peaceful afternoon to catch up on my neglected blog.  I am determined to savor every moment of this holiday season and try not to get wrapped up in the frantic frenzy that usually sets in as Christmas draws closer.  Life could only be improved if I had a gingerbread latte sitting next to me as I work!  With that said….I am excited to share a few shots from Kate and Kyle’s engagement from earlier this year.  Engagement sessions are so much fun and provide such a great opportunity to get to know each-other before the wedding.  Kate and Kyle are an adorable couple, but I think the pictures will speak for themselves.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!!

Laura & Jason - New Albany Wedding Photography

I hope that all of my fantastic blog readers had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!  We were able to get out of town on a little get away and spend some quality time with the family.  There is always so much excitement surrounding the holiday season and I am determined to savor every moment.  The Christmas music has been playing non-stop for days and I have begun making the shopping list.  We were fortunate enough to take a pause in the middle of the holiday festivities to celebrate the wedding of Laura and Jason.  I love to watch a couple exchange their vows with so much love and commitment in their eyes.  They are such a sweet couple and deserve the very best.  Congrats!

Louisville Family Photography

First, I must say that I absolutely adored working with this sweet little family.  I generally don’t have the opportunity to photograph families and it was so refreshing to work such a fun  little guy.  The joy and energy that children bring is just beautiful, and yet they are extremely candid.  When a child is finished having their picture taken the session is over  and no amount of coaxing will make them reconsider.  We had a truly amazing session and darling Carston led the way.  I was honored to be able to capture a glimpse of the love this family shares with each other.  They are playful, genuine and loving people and I truly feel that the pictures captured all of those qualities.  It is my hope that I will be there to document many of their happy memories in the years to come.

Hubers Engagement Session - Leah & AJ

I am so lucky to work with the most wonderful people!  It has been a blast working with my 2010 brides and grooms to create some outstanding engagement images.  The engagment shoot is valuable in so many ways, and I have enjoyed creating albums and art pieces for my clients homes as they start their new lives together.  Leah and AJ were great to work with!!  I have shot at Huber’s Winery many times, but it was particularly fun this time because AJ is part of the Huber’s  clan.  It is difficult to identify my favorite shot but the ones in the vineyard are a close tie to the picture of Leah and AJ behind the Huber’s sign. :)

Happy Monday!

Michael - Louisville Senior Photography

Designing a senior portfolio is a blast! I love the energy and excitement that we are able to channel into the images we are working to create.  I am usually zoned in on the wedding world, so I love the opportunity to express my creativity in a different way.  I photographed Michael’s brother a few years ago,  and I was thrilled when the family called to schedule this session for Michael.  He is so photogenic and I loved the jacket! Great choice!

Louisville Family Photography

This is  the prettiest fall season we have had in years and I have had such a great time filling these beautiful days with all of the photo shoots that I can possibly squeeze into my schedule.  Since we primarily photograph weddings I have enjoyed branching out this season by adding a select number of family and senior sessions to our fall line-up.  I must admit that I was thrilled, honored and a bit nervous when Julie Brock asked me to photograph her family.  Photographing families and children is her specialty and I did not want to disappoint!  The shoot was a blast and we had fun playing in the leaves and getting wet in the creek.  I could not be more pleased with the results and am excited to share a few of my favorite shots.

Enjoy! AmyLouisville Family PhotographyLouisville Family PhotographyLouisville Child PhotographyLouisville Family PhotographerLouisville Family Photographer

Tis the season for great senior sessions!  I love it when seniors are on the ball and aren’t trying to cram their senior pictures in right before graduation.  With the exception of the rain this year, October is without a doubt my favorite month to be a photographer.  The light is soft, beautiful and the scenery is amazing right now!  We only have a couple of sessions open this fall, so let us know if you are interested and we will make it happen!

Mallory & Todd - Louisville Slugger Field

We have been fortunate enough to enjoy great weather on our wedding days, however, the end of September presented a few challenges with the amount of rain we received in such a short period of time! Mallory and Todd managed to escape the looming threats of bad weather and had a wonderful day.  This was my first time shooting at Slugger Field and I loved the fun atmosphere and environment.  Also, I wanted to give a special thanks to Holly for helping us with the equipment lighting etc.  Holly is the newest member of our team and just recently became engaged herself.  Congrats!

Adrienne & Sam - Louisville Wedding at Historic Locust Grove

I am excited to share a few more shots from Adrienne and Sam’s beautiful September wedding.  It is such an amazing time of year for a wedding - so for any Kentuckiana brides-to-be I encourage you to think about the hot and humid weather we enjoy in the spring and summer and consider having a fall wedding.  Just a thought :)
