Louisville Wedding Photography BLOG!

Hello to all of my wonderful friends and blog readers.  I'm Amy Shepherd, a Wedding Photographer from Louisville, Kentucky. This blog is designed to give you a little insight into my life and business, so to get things started I will share a bit about me.  We all wear many different hats and some of my favorites include: being a wife to the super awesome Paul Shepherd, a mother of two amazing little boys, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and of course a PHOTOGRAPHER!  I love... music, singing opera in the shower, chocolate, spring, vacations (anytime and anywhere), date nights out, family nights at home, flowers, wearing scarves in the winter, taking walks, Paul's Thai chicken recipie, long veils in the wind, sunglasses, eyes, smiles....

I feel that photography is a means of expression that transforms your life and experiences into tangible works of art.  Everyone is familiar with the expression "a picture is worth a thousand words" but I would venture to say that the moments captured in an image are priceless.  The sweet expression of a child, a father's face as he embraces his daughter at the alter,  the love shared between a bride and groom as they dance together for the first time are all moments for which the personal value transcends any monetary cost.  The investment in beautiful and timeless imagery is one of the most imortant choices you can make for your family.

So...now that we know each other don't be a stranger! Please feel free to post your thoughts and ideas in the comment section.

Louisville Family Photography

This is  the prettiest fall season we have had in years and I have had such a great time filling these beautiful days with all of the photo shoots that I can possibly squeeze into my schedule.  Since we primarily photograph weddings I have enjoyed branching out this season by adding a select number of family and senior sessions to our fall line-up.  I must admit that I was thrilled, honored and a bit nervous when Julie Brock asked me to photograph her family.  Photographing families and children is her specialty and I did not want to disappoint!  The shoot was a blast and we had fun playing in the leaves and getting wet in the creek.  I could not be more pleased with the results and am excited to share a few of my favorite shots.

Marissa - Louisville Senior Photography

Tis the season for great senior sessions!  I love it when seniors are on the ball and aren’t trying to cram their senior pictures in right before graduation.  With the exception of the rain this year, October is without a doubt my favorite month to be a photographer.  The light is soft, beautiful and the scenery is amazing right now!  We only have a couple of sessions open this fall, so let us know if you are interested and we will make it happen!

Mallory & Todd - Louisville Slugger Field

We have been fortunate enough to enjoy great weather on our wedding days, however, the end of September presented a few challenges with the amount of rain we received in such a short period of time! Mallory and Todd managed to escape the looming threats of bad weather and had a wonderful day.  This was my first time shooting at Slugger Field and I loved the fun atmosphere and environment.  Also, I wanted to give a special thanks to Holly for helping us with the equipment lighting etc.  Holly is the newest member of our team and just recently became engaged herself.  Congrats!

Adrienne & Sam - Louisville Wedding at Historic Locust Grove

I am excited to share a few more shots from Adrienne and Sam’s beautiful September wedding.  It is such an amazing time of year for a wedding - so for any Kentuckiana brides-to-be I encourage you to think about the hot and humid weather we enjoy in the spring and summer and consider having a fall wedding.  Just a thought :)

Louisville Wedding - Christine & Tony

We have finally moved into the fall season with the beautiful weather and soft light…and I am loving every minute of it!!  Christine and Tony poured their heart and soul into planning and perfecting their beautiful wedding at Yew Dell Gardens, and their efforts were rewarded.  The details were beautiful, the day was flawless, and mother nature smiled on us with all of her autumn glory.  From our first meeting, I could tell that photography was on the top of their priority list!  They were a great couple to work with, and I am thrilled with the way everything came together.  Best wishes!

Marcie & Dan - Louisville Wedding Photography

The term “Bridezilla” was coined in reference to crazy, out of control brides who don’t seem to understand that there are other people on the planet, however, we have not come up with a label for the perfectly wonderful, incredibly sweet, relaxed and thoughtful brides like Marcie.  To say that I had fun spending the day with Marcie and Dan would be a terrible understatement.  The day was wonderful and we had the time and locations necessary for amazing photographs.  My expectations are always high when I know that Carol Grisanti has been selected to coordinate an event, and somehow she always manages to exceed those expectations.  The day was flawless - a special thanks to Carol and her incredible staff!!  Congrats to you both!!

Jenna & James - Louisville Wedding Photography

I absolutely love the idea of a post-wedding session, so when Jenna mentioned that they were interested in shooting an additional session I was thrilled.  Immediately I began to brainstorm about location ideas that were new, interesting and not feasible to capture on an actual wedding day.  We started the shoot downtown and then headed to a couple fun and contrasting locations as the evening light gave us a beautiful and subtle glow to work with.  This session had been planned before the actual wedding, which was great because it allowed much more flexibility in the time-line for Jenna and James to focus on their day.  This is a great time of year to plan a session so if this shoot sparks your imagination just give me a call and we can chat about the details.

Callie & Russell - Louisville Wedding Photography

I am so excited to share a few images from Callie and Russell’s wedding earlier this month.  First of all, I must say that I adore this couple and their families! They are such a fun and loving group and I truly appreciate how warm and welcome they made me feel.  The day was great - fun, relaxed and lots of great pictures.  We started getting ready downtown at the Brown Hotel, and then made our way to Duncan Memorial Chapel for the ceremony.  Callie and Russell  scheduled a block of time between the end of the ceremony and the start of the reception so we were able to take all of the pictures without feeling rushed.  Great planning guys!  The reception was at Oxmoor Country Club, and as you can see from the pictures everyone just cut loose and had a great time.  Congrats!
