I just wanted to say a quick hello and post a few Thanksgiving day thoughts, since I happen to be up before the kiddos. The bird just went into the roaster…yep, promptly at 6am; I nearly had a heart attack as the rooster alarm rudely went off on my sweet husband’s phone reminding us to get this party started. It has only been eighteen minutes and the house is already starting to fill with the beautiful aroma of all the seasons and spices of Paul’s secret rub, and I just heard the coffee grinder upstairs…so all signs are pointing to a great morning. I love this time of year, the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and how it provides the opportunity to think and reflect on things that are bigger than ourselves. In preparation for today we have been talking with the boys about some of the blessings we enjoy and what we are truly thankful for in our lives. As I was lying in bed this morning, trying not to be annoyed at the stupid rooster, I attempted to think of a few things to add to my “thankful” list. This has been a busy year for our family, well to be completely honest…a crazy and hectic whirlwind of bona fide adulthood. My life is full, almost every moment is spoken for, planned or arranged on a detailed “to do” list. As a wife, mother and business owner, there are so many roles that need to be juggled, and I often find that the things in my life that tend to frustrate me are often the biggest blessings. Sometimes clarity comes from a much needed perspective adjustment.. When I was little I remember opening the inside cover of my mom’s Bible and mulling over the hand written phrase on the first page…”thank God for dirty dishes.” She explained to my perplexed young mind the implied blessings that the phrase expressed. I have many dirty dishes in my life at the moment, both literal and proverbial, but I am going to focus on the blessings that produced each one of them. I am thankful for so much, but if asked today…I will say that I am thankful to spend my last day in my twenties with my dearest friends and family. Cheers to a wonderful holiday season, and a fabulous new decade.
XO
